In a varied but wonderful climate, the bridge between Europe
and Africa, the crossroads of three continents, has kept inside
green forests and steep gorges all that nature has to offer.
This island is a place with tall mountains, fertile valleys and
clean beaches.
Crete is the most southern district not only of Greece but at the same time of
all the European Community.
It is also the biggest island of Greece and the second biggest (after Cyprus)
of the East Mediterranean. It separates the Aegean from the Libyan sea and marks
the boundary between Europe and Africa.
The island is so large that it has absolutely everything to offer to the visitor:
beautiful mountains, endless golden sandy beaches, Europe’s only palm tree
forest, charming town, villages and fishing harbour, many caves, numerous Byzantine
churches, several castles...
Crete is a mixture of the glorious civilizations and cultures
of the past, but is also a world living and creating new traditions
in the present. There are many big cities that developed on the
north side of Crete, around the ports but also in the mainland.
Crete is divided in four prefectures of Chania, Iraklio, Lassithi
and Rethymno. The land of history, culture and feasts offers
you its smile and welcomes you in the mysterious yet familiar
world of the Cretans.
